Colgate-Palmolive is partnering with Solutum to test new dissolvable plastic technology—an innovation to help solve the Earth’s plastic waste problem.
Unlike a typical plastic bag, which requires recycling at stores or other drop-off locations, the dissolvable bag can be disposed of at home through the water system.
- Place the bag in a sink/basin, washing machine, dishwasher, or anywhere you can submerge it in water. The plastic will dissolve within a few minutes in warm water and longer for colder water.
- The dissolved plastic will be part of the stream sent to a wastewater treatment plant, where it will fully biodegrade to CO2, H2O, and biomass that will break down safely in the environment. Some ink residue may be left behind; it can also be washed into the drainage system.
- Alternatively, place the bag in a compost bin. It will biodegrade like other compostable materials.
